NYC sidewalks are basically a 24/7, free Home Goods. These are some of my best finds from the street - and Craigslist too. More context under the doodle!

Drawing of street finds: headboard, divider, shoe rack, waffle iron, outdoor set, fan, couch, clothing rack, and book.
Best free and cheap home goods I've discovered.
  • I needed a headboard and found one right outside my apartment! It was a queen and I had a full. Free it not always perfect, but you make it work!

  • My mom found a divider that a wealthy couple was getting rid of. It doesn't stand on its own but that didn't stop us! We still have it more than 10 years later.

  • A flimsy shoe rack. Good enough for us (my shoes and me)!

  • A little waffle iron that provided more fun than I ever could have imagined!

  • An outdoor set. Don't even ask how I got it. I'm still recovering from the 6-floor walk-up.

  • A weak fan that got me through the summer.

  • A couch that I carried home.

  • A clothing rack on wheels – so easy to get home!

  • Pretentious books left in front of brownstones. I roll my eyes but find myself taking them anyway!
